The Benefits Of Using A Digital Antenna
6/7/2010Move over, cable and satellite! The good, old-fashioned antenna has gotten a new makeover, and it's making a comeback. Millions of people are already using an antenna and hundreds to thousands more are joining as this is being typed. While the antenna might seem more like ancient relics from our childhood or something you might find at your grandparents' house, the fact remains: they are reliable, practical and give you the best in local television programming.
Perhaps the number one reason why people use an antenna is because it is practical. Let's face it - paid TV service can be exciting at first, but everyone does get busy with work, school, and their other commitments. Many people think they don't watch TV enough and feel they should not have to pay for it. Furthermore, most companies will offer a special introductory rate for a certain amount of time before it goes back to its original price. Don't be surprised to find that your monthly bill for TV service alone is about double than what you were initially paying! Saving money is crucial, especially when the economy is very weak, and using an antenna saves you that chunk of change every month.
For those who do watch a lot of programming on the specialty channels, almost everything you see on TV can be watched on the internet. The internet is a great resource for just about anything, including your favorite shows and movies! TV stations and other third-party sites, such as Hulu, provide full episodes and can be watched pretty much anytime of the day. Plus, you will have to sit through less commercial time because there will usually only be one sponsored commercial to come on between intermissions. MTV, for example, is notorious for 3 to 4-minute long commercials, but you only have to watch but one or two commercials at the most to get to the next part of the show.
You most likely have heard about the switch from analog to digital. This DTV transition was set to take place in January but has been postponed to June instead. With the switch to digital, that means better picture and sound quality. That also means high-definition channels, absolutely free. Assuming you have a HDTV, then you will be well on your way to watching TV in crystal clear picture quality.
Lastly, a lot of local television stations are removed from paid TV service lineups, and these stations can be picked up with an antenna. Many users have reported anywhere from 5 to 20 more channels that they never saw with paid TV service.
